BBMP to ramp up property tax collection: Chief Commissioner

The Revenue Department of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike held a training workshop on Friday for its officials. The Revenue staff of the civic body was trained to improve services such as khata registration, amalgamation, bifurcation, transfer, etc. The workshop held at Sir Puttanna Chetty Town Hall was inaugurated by BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath.

The goal of such training was to have a uniform procedure across the different zones of the BBMP. “There is huge scope for improvement in reaching our revenue targets. We intend to come up with strategies to achieve this and help in better collection of revenue this year,” the Chief Commissioner said.

The civic body is set to prioritize the collection of property tax. The revenue officials will be focusing on identifying new properties and bringing them under the property tax net. According to a statement by the BBMP, the workshop aimed at training Assistant Revenue Officers, Revenue Officers, Evaluators and Revenue Inspectors in using the e-Asti software and other procedures. The workshop was held under the supervision of the BBMP’s Special Commissioner (Revenue) Deepak R L (IRS).

The e-Asti software was introduced on a pilot basis in three wards of the East zone. The software is said to aid in simplifying revenue services. The BBMP said that the software would be extended to all the wards of the East zone and then to the South and West zones.
