Any VVIP visiting Mysuru will not return home without buying a Mysuru silk sari, the signature of the cultural capital of Karnataka. The Mysuru sari has been famous world-wide and Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation has its retail outlets at all major airports both in India and abroad. Hitherto, the silk weaving factory was meant only to cater to the needs of Mysuru Royal family, but it became a government of Karnataka enterprises after independence.
Two days ago, Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari was in Mysuru, and he was taken to the silk showroom by Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha. The union minister was surprised to see the wide range of saris and bought one or two saris for his wife. This gesture of Gadkari reminds one of a famous tag line of the yesteryear pressure cooker advertisement “Joh biwi se kare pyar, woh Mysore Silk sari se kaise kare inkaar”.

He not only inaugurated the event but also ran with other participants by tucking his white dhoti above the knee level. While running he skidded and fell, but instead of stopping, he stood up and continued till the end. On Friday, Gowda was invited to open “Kurukshetra”, a Kannada drama staged by the advocates’ of Mysuru. The MLA not only inaugurated it but also presented a song from a drama that too with the background music. The audience was surprised to see the multi-faceted personality of Gowda.
