Months after Tamil Nadu gave the go-ahead for an airport, Karnataka has approved a plan to extend the Metro line from Bengaluru to the industrial town near Hosur, located on the border of the two states. As per reports, Karnataka has approved the extension plan from Bommasandra to Hosur, paving the way for a direct Metro link between the manufacturing hub of Hosur with Bengaluru city.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) had sent a letter regarding the same to the Secretary, Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) on May 23. “The Phase-2 of BMRCL metro rail project is being implemented up to Bommasandra from RV Road metro station of Phase-1. Adding to this, a 20.5 km stretch till Hosur in Tamil Nadu was approved by Karnataka Chief Minister. Of this, 11.7 km falls in Karnataka and the remaining 8.8 km is in Tamil Nadu.

Karnataka government approved the proposal and stated that Tamil Nadu can conduct a study for a metro line between Bommasandra to Hosur,” the proposal stated. A Chellakumar, Krishnagiri MP, said that he will soon meet Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin to discuss the proposal and will also write to the Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai urging him to conduct a detailed project report for the project. Earlier in Lok Sabha, the MP had raised the issue of extending metro service and the same was noted down by BMRCL in its proposal to MoHUA.
