The BJP’s elected representatives are sore over the decision of Mysuru district administration to restrict the number of beneficiaries to be present during the interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the central welfare schemes at Maharaja College Ground on June 20.
The ruling BJP had booked 1,200 buses to bring around 60,000 beneficiaries from the districts of Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Hassan districts. In all, around 1.5 lakh people from all over the State make this as a big event.
But, now the Special Protection Group (SPG) that visited the venue has reportedly suggested the district administration restrict the crowd to 30,000, including the beneficiaries. This has come as a big jolt for the district BJP unit and local BJP elected representatives.
This decision has not gone down well among a few central ministers from Karnataka and they were trying to impress upon the Prime Minister’s Office to increase the number of beneficiaries to be present to around 50,000. So far, there has been no response from the PMO.
According to official sources, the SPG team that visited the venue opined that it was not advisable to have more crowds in view of the security of PM Modi and instructed the district administration to cut drastically. Since the decision of the SPG officers was final, the district administration had no option but to implement it.
