The state is likely to stink from July 1 as pourakarmikas are planning to launch an indefinite ‘broom down’ strike across Karnataka in support of their various demands including regularisation of jobs. Karnataka State Pourakarmika Employees Association President Narayana said the pourakarmikas of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike, City Corporation, City Municipal Council and Town Municipality will boycott work from July 1.
Their main demands are: regularisation of jobs and direct transfer of the salary to their bank account. Narayana said over 18000 pourakarmikas will sit in dharna at Freedom Park in Bengaluru. The pourakarmikas will also stage a dharna in the district and taluk centres from July 1 and stop cleaning work. The government will be held responsible for any inconvenience to the general public, he warned.
