Keeping in view the density of population and traffic problems likely in the next 30 to 50 years, the Mysore Urban Development Authority has decided to construct another Peripheral Ring Road and will submit a detailed proposal to the state government.

This was decided at the general body meeting presided over by MUDA Chairman H.V. Rajeev and attended by almost all MLAs and MLCs of the district. Briefing the media after the meeting, Rajeev said a Detailed Project Report(DPR) has been prepared for having an alternative Peripheral Ring Road on the city outskirts.

A memorandum was submitted to Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari during his visit to Mysuru recently. The union minister wanted the proposal to be submitted through the state government. The total length of the PRR would be 73.25 km.

The meeting also decided to release Rs 150 crore to Karnataka Urban Water Supply & Sewerage Board for the completion of a drinking water project to bring water from River Kapila. From Bidaragudu Jackwell, 180 MLD of water can be supplied to the city for which a pipeline has been laid.

At present, only 60 MLD water is supplied from the well. To utilise the full 180 MLD of water, Rs 150 crore is needed. Already Ra 30 crore has been released to the water board and the remaining Rs 70 crore would be released after getting a technical report on the pros and cons of the project.

Rajeev said MUDA has estimated that by 2025, they would require 494 MLD of water of which 230 MLD would be needed for Mysuru City Corporation, 138.40 MLD for MUDA and 120.10 MLD for local bodies, taluk panchayats and the city municipal council.
