Four arrested for extortion

Four miscreants were nabbed for their involvement in extorting money by threatening the general public using sharp weapons. As per the police, the accused were identified as Syed Aleemuddin, 39, a resident of KG Halli; Akash, 23, a resident of Thanisandra; Tabrez, 27, of JC Nagar and Asadullah, 27, from Shampura in the city.

A team of police patrolling near Kacharakanahalli, were alerted about a five-member gang extorting money from the public by threatening them with machetes.

The jurisdictional Sub-Inspector of Police, Akhtar Patel, rushed to the spot along with his team and nabbed the gang near the vegetable market ground. The police, however, said that one of the accused escaped during the raid. A probe has been launched to arrest him based on the information obtained by his accomplices, police added.

Police said three theft cases have already been filed against the accused. Further investigations are underway to nab the absconding accused.
