In a first, the police attached the properties of a habitual drug peddler from Chamrajnagar. The accused has been identified as G Mallesh. According to the police, he was arrested at least seven times for drug peddling. The accused was booked under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators Act and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Citing the legality of the respective laws, the Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Raman Gupta said properties of habitual offenders, who are arrested and attract 10 years imprisonment or more, can be attached.
“We have to establish the fact that he is a habitual offender and purchased the properties with money earned illegally,” he said. Gupta also added that in Mallesh’s case, his agricultural land in Chamarajnagar which he purchased using money earned through drug peddling will be attached.
