The Bengaluru police arrested three persons including a couple and a woman in connection with the murder of a 45-year old businessman from Bihar.
The accused have been identified as Vishal Prajapathi, 24, his wife Ruby Prajapathi, 23, hailing from Uttar Pradesh; and Gunjadevi, 35, wife of the deceased businessman Omnath Singh, 40, natives of Bihar.
On July 3, the Kadugodi police was alerted about a suspicious gunny bag found lying near a drain close to a temple on the Belathur-Kodigehalli Main Road in the city. On inspecting the bag, the police team found body of a man in it. The police arrested the three after scanning the CCTV footage around the area and gathering whereabouts of the deceased.
All the four had arrived in Bengaluru just 15 days ago and had rented two separate houses near the Belathur area. “The deceased Omnath was a gutka trader while Vishal took up a job as tailor at a garment factory here,” an officer from Kadugodi police station said.
Turn of events
About three months ago, Vishal had given Omnath Singh a loan of Rs 15,000 and had left for Mangaluru for some work. Unbeknownst to Vishal, Omnath developed intimacy with Ruby and recorded several private videos secretly on his mobile phone. Later, he started blackmailing the woman. Unable to bear the harassment, Ruby disclosed the matter to Vishal. “However, Ruby claimed that Omnath had drugged and rendered her unconscious,” police said.
The issue was then revealed to Omnath’s wife Gunjadevi, who joined the couple and conspired to finish Omnath. The couple called Omnath to their house for a discussion and strangled him using a veil. Later, the trio packed his body in a gunny bag and threw it near the drain.
The trio have been arrested from Mangaluru, where they had fled to escape the police. Further investigations are underway, police said.
