The suspension of Samuel Edwin Christopher of Bishop Cotton Boys’ School (BCBS) and Shanta Susheela of St John’s High School in the city has shocked the public and created mixed responses among the school fraternity. It is truly a dark day for both schools, and both the principals were respected for their competency.
Despite the odds stacked against Edwin Christopher, he is confident with his actions and puts forth his thoughts saying, “My hands are pure free from all kinds of dirt. I will emerge clean and stronger in life. It is a passing cloud and I see better days ahead.”
The suspension of the principals with immediate effect hopefully will not disrupt the schools’ smooth functioning and students will continue with normal activities on campus. The details of the charges against the two suspended principals will be revealed once an inquiry has been completed. However, many feel the comments made by the former principal, BCBS and member of the school management board, Abraham Ebenezer were uncalled for.
He had stated, “It was a first for the school with a history of 150 years, this has dented the reputation of the institution. It has pained me and this is a concern shared by the alumni and parents”. According to sources the principals had not been provided a platform to respond to the allegations.
As thousands of children were involved as stakeholders, the issue will certainly be of public interest. These church run schools were started with great effort and built by visionary founders and hopefully they remain as a testimony of excellence in the future.
