Bengaluru: Crime Investigation Department (CID) sleuths probing the sensational murder case of Chandru in Bengaluru has submitted a 171-page charge sheet to the First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court naming 49 persons as witnesses.

The chargesheet filed by the CID contains Simon Raj’s latest statement in which he has said, “As I was shocked after Chandru’s death, I had earlier stated that the accused were on a bike. However the accused had no bike with them during the incident,” he said. However, the then police commissioner of Bengaluru, Kamal Pant had said that the murder was a result of road rage.

“As per the statements and investigations, it was revealed that Chandru’s two-wheeler collided with Shahid’s scooter which led to an argument, and later Chandru was stabbed by Shahid,” Pant had stated.

According to the charge sheet, Chandru, 22, and his friend Simon Raj were abused by the prime accused identified as Shahid Pasha on April 5 at midnight near a bakery. Both the friends tried to avoid the argument but when the accused continued abusing them, Raj and Chandru pushed him, after which the accused called out to his friends and a fight ensued between both the groups.

The fight resulted in Shahid stabbing Chandru on his right thigh while Raj managed to escape. The charge sheet which was filed based on the statements taken by the CID officials from witnesses including Raj, said that during the argument, Shahid had called on Chandru and Raj to speak in Urdu as he could not understand Kannada properly. Chandru was taken to a hospital by Raj in an auto, but he died due to profuse bleeding. The police arrested three accused including a minor in the case.
