Auto drivers protest against ‘illegal bike taxis’

Autorickshaw and taxi drivers in the city staged a protest against ‘illegal’ bike taxis operating in Bengaluru. The protest was called by the Peace Auto and Taxi Drivers’ Association at Freedom Park. Drivers assembled in large numbers and shouted slogans against the bike taxi services.

The protesters demanded that the Transport Department enforce the rules framed for bike taxis. They said that vehicles having white boards are currently being allowed to operate as bike taxis, violating the Bike Taxi Rules.

According to the Karnataka Bike Taxi Scheme, only electric bikes are allowed to operate as taxis
