Two cops from city die in an accident at Chittoor

Three people, including two Bengaluru policemen, died in a road accident in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday morning. According to the police, the accident happened in Chittoor district at around 5 am. The deceased have been identified as sub-inspector Avinash, 29, who hails from Bidar and constable Anil Mulik, 26, from Bagalkot. Both of the policemen were attached to the Shivajinagar police station in the city.

According to the information provided by the police, they both had gone to Andhra Pradesh to investigate a drug case. According to sources, the driver of their car lost control and it collided with a road median on the outskirts of Chittoor town. The driver, identified as Maxwell, a resident of Guntakal, Andhra Pradesh, also died in the accident. While both police officials died on the spot, the driver succumbed later, said police.

Another sub-inspector Dikshith L, 28, and constable Sharanabasava, 29, who were also in the car, sustained injuries and were shifted to Christian Medical College (CMC) at Vellore in Tamil Nadu for further treatment, the police said.

Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra has assured all necessary help from the department. He said that it was an unfortunate incident. The Deputy commissioner of police (east ) Bheemashankar S Guled said, “The Bengaluru police stands with the family of the deceased staff and officers. All assistance and support will be rendered to them.” A police team from Karnataka has rushed to the scene of the accident and arrangements have been made to bring the bodies and injured to Bengaluru, police sources said
