Owner of car used for youth's murder in Mangaluru held

Mangaluru: In a vital breakthrough in the murder case of a minority community youth, Mohammed Fazil (23), in Surathkal, the owner of the car that is said to have been used by the culprits for the crime, has been arrested. "More than 51 people have been probed in connection with the murder. We got hints about the car while scanning the CCTV footage- a white Hyundai Eon car.

On the basis of the footage and registration number, we took eight cars into custody and inquired about their owners," Mangaluru Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar said. The owner of one specific car was taken into custody on the outskirts of Surathkal Saturday evening. "He has disclosed information on who took the car from him... Now he will be presented before court. He will be questioned and we may get information on those involved," he said.

Fazil was hacked to death on July 28 by three to four miscreants at Surathkal. The killing happened close on the heels of the killing of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha(BJYM) member Praveen Nettar by unidentified motor bike-borne assailants on Tuesday night in Sullia taluk.

Kumar said one of the accused had contacts with the car owner and had taken the car from him earlier too. "We will be grilling him (owner) further....we have not yet got the car, but have information about it, we are tracking it
