Patna: A day after National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued a notice to the Bihar government over a slew of botched cataract surgeries in Muzaffarpur; an FIR was registered on Thursday against a private hospital, allegedly responsible for 15 people losing their vision after the eye surgery.

A single doctor had performed cataract operations on 65 people at a private hospital in one day, in contravention of medical protocol. They had undergone cataract surgery at a free medical camp organized by Eye Hospital, a leading private hospital in North Bihar on November 22.

Later, at least 15 of them developed infection, leading to loss of their eyesight. Muzaffarpur Senior Superintendent of Police Jayant Kant told News Trail that an FIR has been registered against the private hospital, involving four doctors, medical staff and others for their negligence that led to the tragedy.

He said that a thorough probe will be conducted and nobody responsible for the botched cataract surgeries will be spared. State programme officer Harish Chandra Ojha visited SKMCH on Thursday and examined the condition of the victims of the botched cataract operations.
