Officials of the BBMP, Traffic Police and other agencies met on Monday to discuss the probable solutions for Bengaluru’s traffic woes.

The BBMP plans to use cold-mix asphalt to fill potholes as hot-mix asphalt cannot be used during rains. The Chief Engineer of the Road Infrastructure department was instructed to get potholes filled using cold-mix.

The civic body has also decided to levy fines on agencies like the Bescom, BWSSB and KPTCL if the material being used for their works is found on footpaths obstructing pedestrians.

According to a BBMP statement, the material must be transported to the nearest vacant ground, failing which the BBMP would seize the construction material and levy a fine on those undertaking the project.

Street vendors will also be asked not to place their stalls or cars on the footpaths of the Outer Ring Road and Major Roads.

Officials of the BWSSB were told to get manholes on Major Roads lowered to the road level in order to avoid inconvenience to motorists. BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath asked the Traffic Police Department to control the parking of vehicles on the service roads of the Outer Ring Road.

Installation of No-Parking boards and other measures are likely to be taken to stop vehicle owners from parking on the service roads
