'Kanade' - a film on architects to be screened at IIFM

Bengaluru: A documentary film by Teepoi, a broadcasting and media production company based in Bengaluru, has been selected for screening at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IIFM).
The film, titled ‘Kanade’ gives an insight into the lives of the Kanade architect brothers, whose work has been widely considered an important milestone in Indian architectural history.
IIFM is one of the largest annual celebrations of Indian cinema outside India. The Kanade brothers, Shankar and Navnath, are known to be the testimony of how life and work can coexist with honesty as the fundamental driving factor.
“We went on to have many conversations with not just the Kanade brothers but their peers and clients too. In their world, clients and friends are synonymous. This was because Kanade architects would be discovered by people who aligned with their way of thinking—simple and conscientious about lifestyle, society and consumerism,” a statement from the team of Teepoi.
“In their research to cater to the middle-class clientele, the Kanade architects learned that stone was abundant in Bengaluru (in the 80s), but expensive. They sought to use stone as a contemporary material and reinvent a method of building that could make it economical,” they added.
The film has been screened a handful of times, and Teepoi has promised to screen more shows in the coming days after the festival. The festival is set to happen from August 12–20 in person and will be streamed Australia-wide from August 13–3
