Memorial for Ekikarana soon: CM

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said that memorials for two crucial movements in the state’s history - Ekikarana (unification of Karnataka) and the farmers’ movement will be built at central locations in Bengaluru.
Bommai disclosed this while speaking at an event to mark Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna’s birth anniversary on Monday. He added that guidance will be sought from pro-Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj and others. “Sangolli Rayanna Military School will be in[1]augurated in September. Both B.S. Yediyurappa and Siddaramaiah have released funds totalling to Rs 180 crore for the project,” he said. The school is in Belagavi district, where Rayanna hailed from.
The 225th birth anniver[1]sary of Sangolli Rayanna was celebrated at the Rayanna statue near KSR Railway Station in the Majestic area.
“Loyalty and courage are the characteristic qualities of Rayanna, who was the right-hand of Kittur Rani Channamma,” the Chief Minister said. He also spoke about the struggle for freedom at various places in the state including Isuru and Ankola.
During the event, Gandhinagar Assembly Constituency MLA Dinesh Gundu Rao said, “Rayanna’s birth anniversary coincides with Independence Day, while his death anniversary falls on India’s Republic Day,” he said and added that Rayanna is an inspiration for the youth.
