The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday refused to give any interim order on the BBMP ward reservation row.
The high court had on August 10 asked the State Government not to final[1]ise BBMP ward reservation quotas till August 16. The oral instruction was given by the single-judge bench comprising Justice Hemant Chandangoudar.
However, the court re[1]fused to pass an interim order after hearing several writ petitions challenging the draft list of reservations to BBMP’s 243 new wards released by the State Urban Development Department. The case has been adjourned, and the next hearing will be on August 17.
Opposition parties, led by Congress, had raised objections to the draft reservation list alleging foul play by the ruling BJP in the distribution of the quotas. Leaders of Congress had said that the new quotas were to ensure that Congress would not win in most wards. They also said that the Supreme Court guidelines were overlooked while deciding on reservations in BBMP wards.
