Bengaluru: A fire broke out at the shopping complex that houses textile outlet Manyawar Mohey stores in Commercial Street in Shivajinagar, Bengaluru on Thursday. Fortunately no one was hurt.
The incident came to light at around 10am when the staff, who came to open the store, noticed smoke inside the main hall. They quickly alerted the fire fighters and the police. The blaze was brought under control within an hour by 4-5 officials who helped douse the fire.
A staff working at the store said that initially it became difficult to ascertain the extent of the area the fire had spread into, due to the smoke filled inside the building. He also said that the fire-fighters had to break open some tin sheets on the upper floors in order to make way for the smoke out of the premises.
Asked if safety systems were installed in the building functioned properly, the staff said, “In the event of a fire caused by electricity, power supply in the buildings usually goes out. We relied on the fire tenders for the operation,” he said.“The fire might have triggered in the morning due to an electrical short circuit. No documents or other valuables were damaged in the incidents,” Motvani, Managing Director of Manyavar and Mohey, told News Trail. “However, the incident would have caused a lot of damage if it had occurred during the night,” he added.
Similar incident took place near KR Market flyover at Mysuru Cirle, on Sunday afternoon, when a fire broke out at the courier godown.
