
Woman abducted from Jharkhand ends life in city

Bengaluru: A 20-year-old woman identified as Jova Kumari who was in her fifth month of pregnancy has reportedly ended her life unable to bear the harassment from Nibas Das, 25, who abducted her. The victim who is a native of Jharkhand was allegedly kidnapped from there and was brought to the outskirts of Bengaluru by the accused. He had then locked her in a room and tortured her.
Minutes before she committed suicide, the victim had called her mother and had sought help. After she went missing on November 2, her family members had filed a case of abduction in one of the police stations of Jharkhand. A fortnight later, the Bengaluru district police had called the victim’s mother to inform them about the suicide.
Das is a cybercrime fraud in Jharkhand and had cheated a few people in the locality. The woman’s family who also were duped by the accused had sought the help of the Jharkhand police to warn him. After he was arrested for this fraud case, he wanted to avenge his arrest and hence he abducted the victim when she had gone to the college.
Both Jova and the accused hail from Deoghar in Jharkhand. He has been arrested for abetting the victim to commit suicide. Jova’s uncle, Gautam Kumar Das (26), a teacher by profession, told NewsTrail from Jharkhand that his niece got married on June 20, 2021 and was staying with her husband Pramod.
“The accused was a notorious fraudster in Deoghar and has cheated many innocent people. We had reported his illegal activities to the police which had led to his arrest. This he had kept in his mind and wanted to take revenge. My niece who was no way connected to this has lost her life,” Gautam Kumar grieved.
