With a considerable number of right-wing organisations and the Chamarajpet Resident Welfare Association seeking the directives from the Karnataka Government to allow Ganesh Chaturthi to be celebrated on the Eidgah Maidan, several people were reportedly seen collecting funds from the residents and shopkeepers towards the festival celebration.
Shopkeepers and residents from Chamarajpet were shocked, when a group of people holding a handbill book came to them asking for donations towards the celebration of the festival on Chamrajpet Maidan. “The state government has not yet issued any order on the celebration as yet. These people are simply trying to make a scene here,” alleged one of the shopkeepers.
When asked, the Residents Welfare Association members denied being a part of it and said that it is the wrong way. “We are not involved in these kinds of activities and nor are related to these persons in any way,” they said.
They said that the group might have printed a fake bill book and are allegedly extorting money in the name of celebration. The Association members urged the residents not to provide funds to such people.
