Five held for auto battery theft

Five people, including a scrap outlet owner, were arrested on Monday by the Malleswaram police for their alleged involvement in the theft of automobile batteries. The police claimed they recovered 100 batteries, valued around Rs 5 lakh.
The arrests were made based on a complaint, regarding the theft of six batteries from a Ring Main Unit (RMU) stationed near a government institution in Malleswaram 18th Cross.
The cops scanned CCTV footage of the area and found a truck which helped them narrow down to the perpetrators. They also captured three auto rickshaws from the accused that they used to transportat the stolen batteries in the city.
The police have not revealed the identities of the accused in order to carry out further investigation. Their arrests have led to solving 11 battery theft related cases in Malleshwaram , Sheshadripuram, Varther, Srirampura, Vyalikaval , Giri Nagar, Sadashivanagar and Halsuru police station limits, police said.
