In a counter to the proposed move by the Congress party led by former CM Siddaramaiah to lay siege to the office of the Superintendent of Police of Kodagu district in Madikeri on August 26, the ruling BJP has planned a big political event on the same day in Madikeri to attack the former CM for terming Kodavas as beefeaters. Siddaramaiah had planned the protest against the failure of cops to prevent the egg attack on his car last week.

On the day the egg was thrown at his car, Siddaramaiah had announced that he would lay siege to the SP’s office for the failure to take action against BJP Yuva Morcha activists. Close on the heels of this incident, Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai had ordered an inquiry into the incident and had also stepped up security for Siddaramaiah.

Now the Congress Party is planning a show of strength in record numbers in the hill district of Kodagu and blow the trumpet for the 2023 Assembly polls. Two Assembly seats in the district have been held by BJP for a long time. The Congress Party wants to use the egg row to strengthen its base in Kodagu.

Meanwhile, the Backward Forum of Mysuru headed by K.S.Shivaram, who is close to Siddaramaiah, has planned a padayatra from Veeranahosalli gate in Hunsur taluk till Madikeri City. The padayatra is scheduled to start on August 23 and reach Madikeri on the D-Day.

To counter this, the ruling BJP has decided to hold a big public convention in Madikeri City on August 26. Already, local BJP leaders have released a video of the egg thrower saying he was a Congress worker but was upset with Siddaramaiah ever since he branded Kodavas as beef eaters.

Despite being a Congress worker he was always fascinated with Hindutva, the party claims. The biggest worry for the police will be managing t wo events at the same place and almost at the same time. Since the area in Madikeri City is very less, cops are worried about how to allow two events?
