Tunes of love

Bengaluru: Bhoomija Trust is presenting Aaroha, a music play helmed by stalwarts Mysore Manjunath, S Surendranath, and Srinivasa Prabhu as the lead actor.

At the center of the performance is a 20-member youth orchestra, conceptualised and conducted by Dr Manjunath.

Apart from popular Indian music compositions, the orchestra plays a couple of outstanding pieces written by the doctor, who also plays the lead violin.

“Our Youth Orchestra is an attempt to bring outstanding young musicians to work with a maestro, taking on a different dimension this time. We are delighted that this first-of-its-kind performance has brought together such exceptional talent,” said Gayathri Krishna, the managing trustee of Bhoomija.

The orchestra comprises 12 violins, one sarangi, cello, flute, and mandolin, and rhythms. All the musicians are under 25 years of age. Through popular poetry and phrases from plays, S. Surendranath weaves a beautiful story of love.

Srinivasa Prabhu plays the Sutradhar, narrating the lines in his inimitable style and mastery of Kannada.

The show has a splendid backdrop by Sri S G Vasudev. Surendranath has also designed the sets and lighting for the performance.

The Bhoomija Trust is known for curating and presenting quality art programs and performances to audiences nationally and internationally.

Since 2012, the Trust has brought to the stage prominent artists and art forms that are not otherwise easily accessible, with a focus on folk traditions.
