Bengaluru: Malleswaram’s roads have been in bad shape for quite some time now. Ironically, a resident has now had a road dug up just hours after it was asphalted.

The incident occurred on Tuesday on Malleswaram’s Hymamshu Shastry Road (4th Main Road), next to the Government Girls’ High School. The spot is just over a hundred meters away from the residence of the State Minister for Higher Education C N Ashwath Narayan.

The BBMP has taken up asphalting of roads in Malleswaram and finished the stretch of the 4th main on Tuesday. The Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of Malleswaram, Harsha said that the road cutting was done without any permission from the authorities.

She also called out the resident for being irresponsible and not getting the work done while the BBMP was asphalting the other half of the road. “We try to sensitise the residents, but many do not care. Some of them do not remove their cars when we need to asphalt the roads, and we end up requesting them repeatedly,” she added.

It is said that the road was dug up to fix a sanitary line. The resident has reportedly been levied a penalty by the BBMP. The stretch remained open for two days, after which it was closed. It now awaits restoration, which, according to the AEE, has to be done by the civic body
