Kalasi palaya Vegetable Market, one of Bengaluru’s oldest and famous markets, was earlier temporarily shifted, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, to Singhena Agrahara on Hosur Road. However, now the state government has decided to shift the market permanently to Singhena Agrahara.

The state cabinet on Thursday approved a proposal to provide a grant of Rs 100 crore for setting up a modern vegetable market at Goolimangala near Singhena Agrahara.

Law Minister J.C. Madhuswamy said that although it was decided long ago to take up the construction of this new market, the official permission has been given only now. He said the market will be constructed on 42 acres of land and out of the Rs 100 crore allocated, Rs 48 crore will be used for land acquisition and the remaining Rs 52 crore for setting up market infrastructure.

“The cabinet informally took cognizance of the fact that the proposed market is too far from several areas of the city. The cabinet has emphasized the idea of constructing four such markets in different areas on the outskirts of the city so that people from all areas can reach them,” Madhuswamy said.

The government is also planning to build two new markets on Kolar and Magadi Road. Madhuswamy said that market construction in Kolar and Magadi Road would help farmers to sell their vegetables.
