Red sanders logs hidden under tomato crates seized

In yet another major seizure, Mahalakshmi Layout police seized 1.4 tonnes of red sanders after arresting a gang of five members allegedly involved in smuggling the logs.

Speaking to News Trail, the police said that the gang was caught while transporting the stolen red sanders hidden under tomato crates in a goods vehicle. The accused were identified by the police as Siddaraju, Prajwal, Lokesh, Devaraj and Govindaswamy.

The police added that Siddaraju and Prajwal were arrested when they were waiting for their customers to deliver 11 kg of red sander logs near ISKCON temple. It was later revealed that the accused had poached the red sanders from Devalapura forest area of Mandya district and had planned to sell them in Tamil Nadu state.

The police said that a few similar cases have been detected against Govindaswamy at Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh police stations.
