Criminal case for refusing to be ‘mane aliya’

Bengaluru:
In a rather strange case, a person approached the High Court claiming that his wife had initiated a criminal case against him and his parents because he refused to be a ‘mane aliya’ (literally meaning resident husband for grooms who settle down in the wife’s house after marriage).
Two petitions came up before Justice JM Khazi. One was filed by Sattyappa and his wife Tulasavva. The second was filed by their son Vithal. A criminal case filed by Rukmini, the wife of Vithal is pending before the Senior Civil Judge court, Jamakhandi.
Rukmini had filed a police complaint in Jamakhandi alleging that her wife and in-laws were harassing her. Then she filed a private complaint against them in the Magistrate court. The police filed a ‘B’ report in the case stating that there was no evidence of the allegations.
