From potholes to craters, Chickpet biz hub has it all

Bengaluru:
The Chickpet main road has been ridden with potholes, leading to the disruption in business for many cloth merchants in and around the vicinity. Prakash Prig al, the president of the Bangalore Wholesale Cloth Merchants Association, told News Trail, “When you look at the potholes, they are not a mere dent in the ground but look like craters caused by celestial objects.”Since it is the festive season, the Chickpet, which houses many retail shops for clothes and other items, has seen a rise in the number of people visiting the locality.
“Nearly 50 thousand to one lakh people visit the neighbourhood from in and around Bengaluru each day since it is the Deepavali season. When the vehicles move on the roads, the water collected within the potholes tends to splash on the customers and ruin all their items of purchase,” Prigal said. He added that the issue had been brought to the notice of the municipal authorities several times, but their promises of filling the potholes had not been fulfilled.
He said that now the issue has been taken up with the Chief Commissioner of BBMP, Tushar Girinath. “The collection of tax from the locality of Chickpet is significantly high. If the condition of the same locality is in such a state, what can we expect of other residential localities? They must fix the problem immediately,” Prigal concluded.
