The greatest movie that can never be made

The latest issue of Musalman comics satirizes the #BoycottBollywood trend

Bengaluru: Even wondered what the Marvel Universe of India would look like? Musalman finally has the answer as the latest introduces Captain Bharat, an obvious parody of Captain America, as they guard a golden cow the Indian government is fighting to China.

But on the way they are attacked by terrorists who infect Captain Bharat with a poisonous saffron gas turning him into Bhagwaan, a Venom-like creator from the Spider-verse.

The comic not only satirises superhero movies but also the cancel culture looming large over Bollywood as a character mentions that “#BoycottMusalman will be trending” alluding the boycott campaigns that any movie starring a Muslim actor or touching on religion is facing, a case in point is Laal Singh Chadda and Brahmastra.

It also touches on the topic of Love Jihad when a writer suggests they make “Love Jihadi Dulhaniya Le Jayenge”, a parody of the classic DDLJ, before being vapourized by the producers and apostasy in Islam with ‘Naam ka Musalman’, about non-believers being categorised as Muslims simply because of their name.

What is even more exciting is that the comic ends with teasing the next part ‘Last Muslim on Earth’. Makes one wonder what is in store next in the series, which you can find by following @musalmancomix on Instagram. The homegrown superhero is waiting to leap onto the big screen.
