Man nabbed for bid to blackmail woman

Bengaluru: Dating apps continue to be a means of blackmail and extortion of the gullible public with the North-East division police arresting a 37-year-old man for allegedly extorting money from a woman by procuring private videos and photos from an online dating application.

The woman had recently filed a complaint alleging that an unidentified person had been demanding Rs 30 lakh from her and had sent her pictures and videos of her while threatening to upload them on social media platforms if she failed to pay him.

A team from the cybercrime cell zeroed in on the accused, Mahantesh, in Bhuvaneshwari Nagar and took him into custody. During interrogation, Mahantesh said that he had procured the videos and photos from an online dating app.

The police said that they found several sleaze videos and photos of other women whom he had planned to extort in a similar manner
