Malavalli rape incident: Cops file chargesheet in record 2 weeks

Mysuru: The Mandya Police have filed a 600 plus pages charge sheet in court against a tuition teacher of Malavalli who sexually assaulted a minor girl and killed her in Malavalli taluk of Mandya district, within two weeks after the heinous crime.
It was on October 11 that a 10-year-old girl was called by a 54-year-old tuition teacher, Kantharaju to the tuition center from where she was taken to an under-construction building where he sexually abused and killed her.
Later, he dumped the body inside a water sump to create an impression that she died after falling into it. After a frantic search for the girl, the parents found the body in the sump. First, the accused pretended to be innocent but he admitted to the crime after the police interrogation.
According to police, it did not take much time for the cops to make the accused reveal the truth. This incident sparked off protests across Mandya district with people demanding capital punishment for the accused.
The State government has announced a solatirum of Rs 10 lakh for the girl's family while Chamarajapet MLA Zameer Ahmed Khan had individually given Rs 5 lakh to the kid's family. Confirming the filing of the charge sheet, Mandya District Superintendent of Police N.Yatish said that the document had been filed in court within a record 14 days to ensure speedy justice for the girl.
They have written to the government seeking immediate appointment of a special public prosecutor to get the maximum punishment for the accused. The evidence collected by the special police team is enough to secure suitable punishment for the rapist.
A reward of Rs one lakh has been announced for the police team that cracked the case within two days of the incident and for confiscating all the material evidence within two weeks.
