
‘When will civic workers get permanent employment,’ AICCTU asks govt

Bengaluru: All India Central Council of Trade Unions has written to the government of Karnataka, demanding regularisation of civic workers. AICCTU demands that all civic workers including pourakarmikas, drivers, cleaners, loaders, sewers working in waste management department in urban local bodies in Karnataka state should be made permanent.
The union has asked the Karnataka government to follow the step taken by Odisha government. On October 16, the Odisha government announced permanent employment to all the civic workers who were working under contract basis in the state.
“It was decided in the cabinet that 11,133 civic workers across the state will be appointed as permanent employees. However, there are more than 43 thousand civic workers in all urban local bodies of the state.
Therefore, AICCTU demands that all civic workers in urban local bodies in Karnataka state should be made permanent as per the laws followed by Odisha government. And to provide a dignified life to every worker,” said Clifton D’Rozario, State President of AICCTU.
