Crackdown on illegal betting, 18 arrested

Bengaluru: While the T20 World Cup cricket matches are being played, the city police have been cracking down on miscreants involved in illegal cricket betting. Speaking to News Trail on Friday, an officer from Bengaluru West Division police said that as many as 18 people have been arrested so far for allegedly involved in cricket betting since October 1.

The accused were identified by the police as Rajesh, 28, Salauddin, 46, Sriram, 30, Tejas, 28, Yogesh, 28, amarnath, 42, Mahendra, 30, Sunil Kumar, 30, Manjunath, 32, Madhu, 27, Manjunath, 36, Ranjeeth, 27, Hemanth, 40, Madappa, 30, Vinod, 25, Waseem Akram, 26, Gangadhar and Suresh.

The police also said that the officials recovered cash amounting to Rs 4,68,200 from the accused. A total of 17 mobile phones were also seized by police.
