BBMP says only 25,000 potholes in city; residents frown

Bengaluru: The BBMP has said that there are more than 25 thousand potholes in the city. The civic agency said that continuous rain in the city over past few months should be blamed for the increase in the number of potholes.
Out of this, more than 17,322 potholes have been closed and more than 7,645 potholes are yet to be filled, said the BBMP. At the beginning of August, there were 17,595 potholes in the city. However, the number of potholes has increased since August and has now crossed 25 thousand.
However, residents in the city feel that the data is not accurate and that there are many more potholes in the city. “The data only shows the potholes which are identified by BBMP officials. There are thousands of potholes in the city that are not noticed by the officials. If all these potholes are counted, there is no doubt that the number of road potholes will be double in the data chart,” said Bevan, a resident of Ejipura.
The BBMP data shows that there are more than 3,000 potholes in the West zone. It also says that 2,000 potholes have been found in Dasarahalli and only 600 potholes have been filled.
