‘Lord Hanuman’ to file suit in High Court seeking property transfer

Mysuru: It may sound strange but it’s true. As many as 108 devotees of Lord Hanuman have decided to file a case in the High Court of Karnataka seeking handing over of Jamia Masjid in Srirangapatna taluk of Mandya district to them. The interesting part is that the petitioner is none other than Lord Anjaneyaswamy of Moodalabaggina Temple.

The State President of Bajrang Dal, Manjunath said the petition will be filed in the high court through advocate Ravishankar. The Bajrang Dal is collecting evidence to prove the existence of a Lord Hanuman temple on the place of worship. The main petitioner will be Lord Hanuman and the signatories will be the 108 devotees.

Manjunath said since 108 is a good number, the 108 devotees are jointly filing a petition in the high court. In June this year, the Srirangapatna Police had prevented a bid by several Hindu organisations to lay siege to the masjid claiming that it was built allegedly by demolishing the Hanuman temple.

They claimed that the existence of Moodalabaggina Anjaneyaswamy temple had been recorded by British historians several decades ago. That document will be filed in the court to stake claim to the existing property following the discovery of Hindu temple features like Kalyana and also the style of construction.
