Bengaluru: Amid several allegations of corruption within the police department making rounds across the state, a set of fresh allegations of bribery against a police officer attached to Kodigehalli police station has been reported in the city.
According to sources, personnel at the Kodigehalli police station have submitted a written complaint to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, North-East, Anoop A Shetty, accusing police inspector Rajanna of accepting bribes from the parties involved in the recently filed cases.
As per the complaint, the inspector has been accused of obtaining Rs 2 lakh from a person involved in running a gambling racket near Canara Bank Layout. Further, it also alleges that he has taken Rs 15 lakh from a person who is in charge of Airtel Broadband Services in the city, following a youth’s accidental death by touching a live wire that was hanging from a tree.
The Airtel employee had offered to pay Rs 10 lakh to the victim’s family and Rs 5 lakh to the inspector. However, when the inspector allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh and asked to pay Rs 5 lakh to the victim’s family, the latter refused. The letter accused the inspector of threatening to charge the Airtel employee with murder for the incident.
Upset with this, the Airtel employee approached Lokayukta and filed a complaint against the inspector. When the inspector somehow received information regarding the Lokayukta raid, he alerted the staff to remain silent in this case. Later, one of the personnel approached DCP Anoop Shetty and revealed the matter to him, according to the letter.
The personnel further alleged that the inspector has promised to make sure that Anoop Shetty is transferred. Meanwhile, the complaint has reached DCP Anoop Shetty and further action regarding the allegations remains to be seen.
