Mysuru: Perturbed over the sad state of roads in Mysuru City, Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat, Mysuru Unit has launched a signature campaign to urge Mysore City Corporation (MCC) to at least fill up potholes to save precious lives.

Recently, Co - Operation and district -In- Charge Minister ST. Soma shekar gave details of receipts and expenditure on Dasara-2022, and according to him a whopping Rs 28 crore was spent on this year’s ‘Naada Habba’ of which Rs 2 crore was spent by MCC on repairs and asphalting of prominent roads in and around Mysore Palace.

Instead of fixing the crumbling infrastructure like roads, the state government celebrated the festival on a grand scale and spent Rs 6 crore on Yuva Dasara alone. The signature campaign was held by the Parishat near Mahatma Gandhi Market and the signatures of road-users were collected.

Such campaigns would be held wherever the roads have become unmotorable, said Ravishankar, Mysore Unit President. The signatures would be submitted to the deputy commissioner, Commissioner of Mysore City Corporation and mayor requesting them to at least take up filling of potholes in the city.

The Parishat has also asked people to teach a lesson to the sitting councillors who do not have the guts to pull up the officials concerned for not restoring roads in the city. On the one hand the government has spent Rs 28 crore on Dasara but does not have funds to fix potholes.

Has the MCC gone bankrupt, he wondered. It would be an embarrassment for Mysureans to lay claim to the tag of a neat and clean city as every road has countless number of potholes, he added.
