Bengaluru: Rainfall continued in parts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru on Sunday even after the calendar turned to November. From 8:30 in the morning to 5:30 in the evening on Sunday, Bengaluru city limits recorded 4.3 mm of rainfall. The same figure for the KIA limits was 5.8 mm. Moreover, some of the heaviest rainfall in the state was observed in coastal Karnataka.
Belthangady town in Dakshina Kannada district led the state with 5cms of rain. Karkala town in Udupi district recorded 3 cms of rain. Shravanabelagola in Hassan district saw 1 cm of rain. India Meteorological Department had in the past warned even after South West Monsoon (SWM) withdraws, the state might receive rain due to weather systems in the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea and the same has come to pass.
“A cyclonic circulation lies over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean and an east-west trough runs from Comorin area to this cyclonic circulation in lower tropospheric levels,” an IMD statement said, adding that it might cause rains in parts of south India for days to come.
The weather department added that another low pressure might develop in the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday. “A low pressure area is likely to form over southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast around 9th November, 2022. It is very likely to move northwestwards towards Tamilnadu-Puducherry coasts with possible slight intensification during subsequent 48 hours,” IMD stated.
