Bengaluru: Alleging harassment by government officials, a couple in Shivamogga district has sought permission for euthanasia from President Droupadi Murmu. Srikanth and Sujatha Naik, a couple from Khandika village of Sagar taluk, have claimed that they were asked to pay a bribe of Rs 10 lakh by the executive officer of the taluk panchayat to clear the site documents on a layout built by the couple.
In a video clip shared on Twitter, the couple stated that they had already paid a bribe of Rs 5 lakh to the Panchayat Development Officer to get the clearance. "Despite the clearance done, the panchayat executive officer is demanding a bribe of Rs 10 lakh now," the couple said.
Srikanth said that they are exhausted from repeatedly running to and from the office to get their job done. "Instead of resolving our issue, the officers are treating us like beggars. We were made to sit in the office for hours while the officials were chit chatting on unnecessary topics.
We have no clue what to do now and are not that educated to confront the department," he said. The assistant commissioner to whom the couple submitted the petition, said that a report will be sent to the senior officials as soon as the allegations and claims made by the couple are verified
