Protest against plan to build school on a playground

Bengaluru: Residents of Raja Rajeshwari Nagar staged a protest against the plan to convert a playground into a school, arguing that there were plenty of other empty locations in the area that would be suitable for a school and that people would lose out on a place of recreation.
The Kempegowda ground, where the protest was staged, is around 1.6 acres in size (survey no 223 and 224, Halagevaderhalli, Kengeri Hobli, Bangalore South) and is the only space available for people of all ages for sports activities, they said.
It was inaugurated by former chief minister BS Yediyurappa in the 2006. They said that residents are unhappy that the youth will be deprived the space to pursue their sports ambitions and improve their physical and mental health. Residents are requesting the government to build the school in any of the vacant civic amenities sites available in the 155 acre residential layout.
