Dr.Varadaraju DN is a doctor by profession and is a well-known neurologist. However, he is not immune to the social and political issues and problems around him in society. Beset with the situations and wanting to make a positive contribution, he decided to create awareness about public rights with a film. He has written the story, screenplay and dialogues for the film Praja Rajya and also produced it.
“I may be a doctor, but not immune to what is going on in society. What I have witnessed in real life inspired me to make this movie. I am of the firm belief that everyone in the society should be provided with free education and free healthcare. It should be universal without any discrimination wherever students want to study and whichever hospital a patient requires treatment in.
This should be the basic democratic principles,” he said. The film’s tagline reads, ‘Fight for Economic Freedom.’ Varadaraju further stressed that it was the right of people to demand these two services from the government. “It is not just because we pay taxes. A democracy should function with the ultimate welfare of the people in mind. It is not a profit making venture.
It is a welfare venture. Freedom is not just about not being under someone. Economic freedom is what defines the dignity of a human being today. Everyone should be able to access something as basic as education and health care for free,” Varadaraju said. The film is directed by Vijay Bhargav and the shooting was wrapped up recently.
The post-production work on Praja Rajya is currently underway. Veteran actor and director and the past president of Kannada Abhivruddi P r a d h i k a r a , T S Nagabharana has appeared in an important role in the film. “There are over 300 films made in a year. People are spoilt for choice. But there are only a handful of films that have the concern for society.
The courage of Dr Varadaraj for taking up this film is commendable,” he said. Tabala Nani, and ‘KGF Thata’ Krishnoji Rao are other actors with prominent roles in the film. Srikanth of KGF fame is the editor of the film which has music by Vijet Manchaiah and cinematography by Rakesh C Tilak. The songs of the film are penned by Yograj Bhat and V Nagendra Prasa
