Tech Summit: Kerala student Srinand wins Rural IT Quiz

Srinand Sudish of Malappuram i n Kerala and Vivek of Surathgad in Rajasthan have bagged the first and second prizes respectively in the Rural IT Quiz competition held here at the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2022. Sri na nd Sudish is studying at the Government Model Higher Secondary School in Malappuram while Vivek is studying at the Swami Vivekananda Government School in Surathgad

The winners were given cash prizes in the form of student scholarships of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 respectively. The contest in the final lasted two hours over eight rounds of quizzing with IT-BT minister Dr C N Aswath Narayan witnessing the show with rapt attention.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said students studying between class 8 and class 12 (PUC) participated in the Rural IT quiz contest drawn from 28 states totaling about 4.7 lakh students in numbers which speaks volumes about the talent that exists in villages. TCS has been sponsoring the quiz contest since the year 2000.

The first edition of the Rural IT Quiz was inaugurated by then President of India Dr A P J Abdul Kalam. Around 2 crore students have participated in the contest so far, he said. Senior official of TCS Sunil Deshpande also spoke. He assured the quiz winners suitable employment opportunities at TCS.

The other finalists of the quiz contest were Abhinav Dubey of Uttar Pradesh, Vannam Bhanupraneet of Andhra Pradesh, Aman Kumar Anjana of Madhya Pradesh, Udit Pratap Singh of Chhatisgarh, Patel Khushi Hemanth of Gujarat and Vignesh Mouno Shetye of Goa. The f ina lists were given consolation prizes by TCS.

The prizes were given away by HAL CEO Mihirkanti Mishra. Meanwhile, Mythili, a student of Manipal School of Life Sciences in Bengaluru won the BT Quiz contest. She bagged a cash prize of Rs 50,000. Saheli Basu Roy of West Bengal, Ishika Agarwal of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology and Janhavi of Institute of Bio Informatics and Biotechnology won the second, third and fourth prizes in the contest respectively with cash prizes of Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 in that sequence.
