Bengaluru:
In what seems to be a move ot keep both milk consumers and dary farmers happy, the Karnataka Milk Federation on Wednesday decided to increase the price of Nandini milk and curd by Rs 2 per litre in the city. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by KMF chairman Balachandra Jarkiholi at which Janata Dal (S) MLA HD Revanna, KMF MD BC Satish and others were present.
Addressing media personnel after the meeting , the KMF chairman said the latest hike on milk and its products will be effective from 11 am on Thursday. “The rates on the products arriving at 6 am tomorrow will be the same. We have decided to raise the price keeping both the stakeholders – customers and farmers in mind. We request your cooperation,” he said.
Earlier, the KMF had made a decision to hike the price by Rs 3 per litre last week, but withdrew the move after the intervention of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai who asked Jarkiholi to defer the price until a meeting took place. The members of KMF had unanimously voted to hike the price of milk and its products by Rs 3 per litre in their general body meeting held in September.
They had claimed that the price of milk in Karnataka was Rs 10 less when compared to the neighbouring states and that the excess amount received from the hike will be directly given to farmers to help them.
