Bengaluru:

A team of personnel from the Central Crime Branch (CCB) raided around 86 houses belonging to rowdy sheeters across the city on Wednesday. According to sources from police, a team led by five ACPs from CCB, raided notorious criminals on suspicion of their involvements in illegal activities apart from offenders evading police and court summons.

Arresting at least 25 persons during the raid, the officials claimed to have seized several sharp weapons from their residences. Joint Commissioner, CCB, Bengaluru, Sharanappa S Dhage said that the raid was carried out based on complaints about several rowdy sheeters disturbing peace amid preparations for the upcoming Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections in the city.

The police also said that several offenders including Naveen, an accomplice of Kulla Rizwan, a rowdy sheeter of Siddapura police station, had vacated their houses. Efforts are on to track them, cops said. Another history-sheeter from Basavanagudi police station, Pruthvik, was nabbed during the Kadalekai Parishe (groundnut festival) while he had come for darshan. He had been the prime accused in various criminal cases including extortion and attempt-to-murder, the senior official added.
