Bengaluru: ‘It is not easy to get away with murder,’ goes the saying. A 35-year-old woman, along with her paramour, was arrested for allegedly killing her husband after he discovered their affair. According to the city police, these two people strangled Desegowda, to death using a rope and threw his body into a drain near the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway.

Police said that the accused, 35, Jaya Lakshmi, had married Desegowda, a native of Channapatna, and later shifted residence to Somashettyhalli in Bengaluru. The couple has two children. While Desegowda was working at a farmhouse, Lakshmi had been an employee at a garment factory. It is revealed that Jaya Lakshmi recently came into contact with Rajesh, and soon both developed intimacy.

However, when Desegowda found out about the affair, he started abusing Lakshmi. Unknown to him, Lakshmi called up Rajesh, who heard Desegwoda abusing his wife. In a fit of rage, he began assaulting Desegowda and during the fight, they strangled him to death using a rope. To avoid getting caught by the police, the two lovers took the body to an isolated place near the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway and dumped it roadside.

They threw Desegowda’s mobile phone nearly 500 metres away from his body, and also buried the rope that was used in the murder. The next day, Jaya Lakshmi approached the jurisdictional police, claiming that her husband was missing, and filed a complaint. She later called up her relatives and inquired whether they had seen her husband.

However, the police, suspicious of her activities, investigated the case and collected the Call Details Records (CDR) of her mobile phone and nabbed her. During interrogation, the woman confessed to having committed the crime, and based on her statements, her paramour was also arrested. Sources from the police said that initially, Rajesh denied the allegations and said that Jaya Lakshmi was like a sister to him. “Later, he too confessed to having killed Desegowda,” police said.
