Bengaluru: Many know Ranjani Raghavan from her performances in TV serials like Putta Gowri Maduve and Kannadathi. But she is also an accomplished author. Her last book, Kathe Dabbi, a collection of short stories was a bestseller with 15 reprints in just six months.
Now, she is coming out with her next book - Swipe Right, which was launched at Blossoms Book House by Yogaraj Bhat. The host of the evening Mohan said “Independent bookstores like Blossoms are like the lungs of the city. We must support them instead of international online retailers like Amazon and Flipkart. Which is why we felt this was the right place to launch the book.”
He then invited Mayi Gowda, the owner of Blossoms, to come on stage and launch the book alongside the other dignitaries. “I don’t know where the inspiration comes from, but I believe in my heart I’m a storyteller,” said Ranjani at the launch of her book.
About the choice of the title, she explains “People might think Swipe Right is about online dating, but it is not. The phrase now has become synonymous with choosing or picking something you like. I looked for a lot of titles but I felt I couldn’t compete with the existing Kannada titles and it doesn’t sound contemporary. And Swipe Right has become part of our everyday speech.”
How is the experience of writing a book different for the actress? She says as an introvert, it comes to her naturally. “I often observe people and don’t talk much. Because of that it has been an easy journey,” says the 28-year-old actress.
