Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, railway staff at the Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT) in the city found an unclaimed suitcase that reportedly contained a woman’s body in it. Santosh Kumar, a railway air conditioning mechanic, who boarded the Bangarpet-SMVT Bengaluru Express train on Tuesday night at the Coromandel Station in Kolar, noticed a large yellow package under his seat.

However, as the train reached Bengaluru, the package remained unclaimed even after all the passengers had got off. This made him suspicious, and he immediately informed the railway authority and the police about it.

“When the railway authorities and police opened the sack, we were horrified to find the body of a woman inside,” Kumar told the reporters. The police later inspected the body and said that the woman appeared to be around 35 years old.

“The woman might have been strangled to death as the body bore no injury marks. The accused had wrapped the body with five layers of blankets and plastic sheets and was cunningly left under the seat of the train,” the police said.

A case under the murder charge and destruction of evidence has been registered at the Baiyappanahalli railway station. Further investigation is being carried out in order to identify the deceased and the accused.
