Man commits suicide alleging harassment by wife

Bengaluru: A newly-married man allegedly hanged himself over being harassed continuously by his wife, at his residence in M V Layout in Ullal Upanagara. The deceased was identified as Maheshwar, 24, a native of Channapatna Taluk of Ramanagar district.
According to the complaint, he married Kavana, 22, hailing from Mandya district, on August 21 with the mutual agreement of both families. However, it was alleged that soon after the marriage, the bride insisted Maheshwar move away from his parents and relocate to Bengaluru.
It is also being alleged that he was made to help Kavana’s family financially.In her statement to the police, Maheshwar’s mother Ratnamma alleged that her son moved away from the house because Kavana refused to stay with her in-laws.
Later, she started harassing her husband to buy her expensive jewellery and other valuables. Based on the complaint, Jnanabharati police have taken up cases under section 34 (act committed with many persons in furtherance of common intention) and 306 (Abetment to suicide) of the IPC, against the woman and her parents.
